To provide an image recording system and method for decreasing standby power without decreasing productivity of image recording and for extending lives of a plurality of storage devices.

The image recording method comprises steps of sequentially receiving a plurality of color separated image data from a host device and recording a color image based on the color separation image data, further including steps of: starting a plurality of disk storage devices that can store image data in rotatable disk media; determining whether one disk storage device in the plurality of disk storage devices receives color separation image data or not; allocating color information to the disk storage device when the disk storage device does not receive color separation image data and rendering the disk storage device into a standby state; or rendering the disk storage device into a standby state when the disk storage device already receives the color separation image data and switching disk storage devices in the above determination step; and informing the color information allocated to the disk storage device to a host device.
