To provide an imaging apparatus which controls a video servo lens even when the imaging apparatus adopts an apparatus configuration incapable of outputting a reference signal to control the video servo lens and a lens control method for the imaging apparatus.
The imaging apparatus characteristically includes: a signal processing section 40 for generating a video signal from an imaging signal resulting from converting a light made incident onto an optical component 10 into an electric signal; a detection circuit 45 for detecting a luminance signal of the video signal outputted from the signal processing section to detect a characteristic value of the luminance signal; and a lens control section 100 for generating an emulate signal to control an automatic iris means on the basis of the characteristic value of the luminance signal detected by the detection circuit to feed the emulate signal back to an optical lens system. Emulating a drive signal for the video servo lens on the basis of the video signal subjected to the processing by the signal processing section can drive the video servo lens even when the imaging apparatus adopts a configuration incapable of outputting the reference signal.
