To provide an image pickup device that can perform pixel mapping without requiring any special operation nor having any effect on its photographing operation and refreshing operation.
This image pickup device is provided with an image pickup element (12) and communicating means (35 and 36) for communicating with an external device. This device is also provided with a connection detecting means (36) for detecting that the external device is connected to the communicating means (35 and 36), an instructing means (45) for instructing an acquiring means (45) to start operation for acquiring the fixed pattern noise data of the image pickup element (12) in accordance with the detected results of the connection detecting means (36), and the acquiring means (45) for acquiring the fixed pattern noise data of the element (12) based on the instruction from the instructing means (45). In addition, this device is also provided with a storing means (43) for storing the fixed pattern noise data acquired through the operation instructed from the instructing means (45) as new pattern noise data.
