NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I ((n) is 1-3).

EXAMPLE: 1-[(3-Indole)methanoyl]-2-piperidone.

USE: A plant growth regulator.

PREPARATION: The objective compound can be produced by converting a compound of formula II (e.g. 3-indoleacetic acid) into acid chloride and coupling with an alkyl metal compound of 2-piperidone (e.g. trimethylsilylated 2- piperidone) preferably at or below room temperature.
