PURPOSE: To easily input many kinds of commands for operating a three- dimensional space of a computer.
CONSTITUTION: Video data are inputted from a video camera 10, digitized by an D/A converter 20, and then stored in a memory 30. A processor 40 segments a hand pattern to calculate group of feature quantities, and estimates hand attitude parameters with the feature quantities. Consequently, the relation between the hand attitude parameters and hand pattern feature quantities 15 found out of hand attitude parameters generated previously with random numbers, and a hand model. A process depending upon the attitude is performed with the estimated hand attitude parameters and a hand pattern is generated. A D/A converter 50 displays those process results on a display 60. Many kinds of command can easily and precisely be inputted without the limitation on the distance from the device.
