Abstract:
PURPOSE:To perform a substitution processing for several tracks at once and to drastically reduce the processing time by providing a temporary storage means for information to be recorded to a defective sector. CONSTITUTION:Write information sent by a CPU 11 is recorded at once to a RAM(A) by a prescribed processing, and is processed for verification by an ECC circuit 15. In the case of abnormality, an address of a defective sector and information to be written to the defective sector are read out of a write buffer for the RAM(A) and stored in a substitutive buffer set up for a RAM(B). When the RAM(B) is thoroughly used out, the information of the defective sector or a defective track is written in a substitutive sector in a substitutive area and checked for verification. Moreover, in the case of substitution processing for burst mode, a management table is written with this effect. By this constitution, the processing time can be shortened by performing the substitution processing required for plural tracks by several tracks at once.
