Abstract:
PURPOSE:To enable the direct access even when a defective sector takes place on whichever sector and to effectively use a recording medium by using a substitutive area on a recording medium both as a burst and a sector. CONSTITUTION:Write information from a CPU 11 is stored in a buffer RAM 18 and checked in each sector for verification by an ECC circuit 15. An address of a defective sector is stored in a prescribed area of the RAM 18. Error information and write information to be processed for substitution are read out of the RAM 18, and the substitution processing is carried out in turn on individual tracks. In the case of two defective sectors on the same track, the substitutive area 22 is processed for substitution in the same zone in the direction of U. In the case of >=3 defective sectors, the substitutive area 22 is processed for substitution as a burst error in the direction of L in the same zone and additionally written in a management area 33. After the substitution processing is completed, the verification check is performed as to information of a substitutive sector and a substitutive track. After a series of processing is finished, it is shifted to the next write information processing. By this constitution, the direct access is possible and the recording medium can efficiently be used until the whole substitutive area is used out.
