To provide an ink receiving apparatus that becomes no obstacle to a worker's printing-related operation during printing and that allows an ink receptacle to be moved to a position facilitating maintenance operation such as cleaning of the ink receptacle.
The ink receiving apparatus C for ink jet printer includes: an ink receptacle C1 for receiving ink discharged from the nozzle of ink jet heads H111-H144 and a support member C2 for supporting the ink receptacle C1 horizontally movably. The ink receptacle C1 is designed to be horizontally moved to three positions by the support member C2, namely, a standby position r that hinders no printing by the ink jet heads onto a printing medium, an ink receiving position s that receives ink discharged for a purpose other than printing in the lower part of the ink discharge face of the ink jet heads, and a maintenance position t that is different from the ink receiving position s and the standby position r and for performing maintenance of the ink receptacle C1.
