Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the input/output correction method and the image processing unit in which an input/output correction curve of an optionally desired shape by introducing a condition designation polynomial and providing simple conditions such as coordinates of some passing points and inclination of a tangential line at start and end points.
SOLUTION: A gamma correction curve generating section 403 reads a prescribed parameter from a parameter memory 402 in the mode or the like designated by a operation section 401 usually and generates a gamma correction curve by using the condition designation polynomial by this invention and provides an output of it to gamma correction arithmetic sections 405, 406. Input image data from a scanner 404 are subjected to gamma correction into image data independently of a characteristic of the scanner 404 by the gamma correction arithmetic section 405 and gamma corrected into image data optimum to the characteristic of a printer 409 by a gamma correction arithmetic section 408 via a color representation system conversion section 407 and the resulting data are outputted to the printer 409. Thus, an input/output correction curve of an optional and desired shape is obtained.
