PURPOSE: To enhance a breakdown-strength characteristic by a method wherein a plurality of photothyristor elements are housed inside a single package, an optical fiber which has been drawn into from one part of the package is branched and a signal is transmitted to the individual photothyristor elements.
CONSTITUTION: An optical fiber 6 is branched into two so as to correspond to two photothyristors 1, 1. One of them is passed through a hole 9 which has been made at the inside of a cathode electrode block 3 and reaches the photothyristor element 1 at the upper side; the remaining one is passed through a hole 10 which has been made at the inside of an intermediate electrode block 2, and reaches the element 1 at the lower side. When an optical signal is inputted from the outside through the optical fiber 6, the optical signal is branched into a plurality of signals by using a beam splitter 8, and reaches the individual thyristor elements 1, 1 at the same timing by using the optical fibers 6 which have passed the inside of the intermediate electrode block 2, the cathode electrode block 3 and the like. It can turn on and off the individual thyristor elements 1, 1.
