To provide an internal combustion engine capable of reducing a period from the start of operation to the start of injection of fuel.
This internal combustion engine comprises a high-pressure fuel pump 76 driven in connection with a crank shaft for performing an intake stroke to take fuel and a pressure feeding stroke for pressure-feeding the fuel to fuel injection means and increasing the pressure. The fuel pressure-fed to the fuel injection means by the high-pressure fuel pump 76 is supplied to the engine via the fuel injection means. The high-pressure fuel pump 76 is installed so that a first injection start timing after the start of operation by the fuel injection means can be equal to a pressure-feeding stroke completion timing by the high-pressure fuel pump 76.
