To provide a joining method for a metallic material capable of joining without reducing productivity the metallic material whose joining part is made hollow such as a pipe whose joining surface becomes discontinuous because a notch of a slit or the like is provided in a joining end part.
In the joining method of the metallic material wherein at least a vicinity of the joining end is made hollow, a procedure wherein an inserting material 3 having a lower melting point than the melting point of the metallic material to be joined is interposed between the joining end surfaces of the hollow metallic materials 1, 2 to be joined and the procedure wherein the joining surfaces of the hollow metallic materials 1, 2 to be joined are heated to and held at a temperature of ≥ the melting pint of the inserting material 3 to ≤the melting point of the hollow metallic materials 1, 2 while applying pressure to the joining surfaces are included. And the continuous shaped inserting material 3 is used even when the joining surfaces of the metallic materials 1, 2 are discontinuous.
