PURPOSE: To reduce the number of inputting times of keys to a termination position for range designation at the time of using second and later functions by deciding whether a shift key is simultaneously depressed or not as to a key having ≥2 functions.

CONSTITUTION: For copying a character string in an optical place as to the key having the functions more than two, the simultaneous depression of the shift key can be omitted on instructing termination by deciding whether the shift key is simultaneously depressed or not and copying the string. When the leading position 601 of a copy character 602 is displayed by using a copy key and the shift key with respect to a screen in the middle of editing, a cursor key sets the leading position of the objective character, and the shift key and the character key are depressed, whereby display is executed. For displaying the termination position of a copy range, the cursor is set in the termination position by the cursor key, and the character key is depressed. Thus, the number of inputting times of keys to the termination position for range destinating can be reduced when the second and later functions are used.
