Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely form phosphor layers at a low cost by coating and baking phosphor inks between barrier ribs multiple times so that phosphors are stuck to the side sections and bottom sections of the barrier ribs on a substrate nearly uniformly.
SOLUTION: Phosphor layers are formed in spaces between barrier ribs formed on the back glass substrate of a back panel having an electric discharge space between it and a front panel together with address electrodes by the discharging method of blue, green and red phosphor inks for quantity production. Each color is applied in processes of two or more stages, and the optimum ink is preferably used in each process. The first-layer ink for forming the thick films at bottom sections has relatively large surface tension, no thixotropy and no viscosity change against shearing stress. The second-layer ink having small surface tension and large thixotropy via the addition of a surface active agent is used for forming thick films on side walls. The luminance of the whole panel is secured, and the design in consideration of a discharge life characteristic can be made via the control of thickness.
