PURPOSE: To provide a light emitting diode in which reflection on a light emitting surface is reduced and which has high light emitting efficiency.
CONSTITUTION: Many protrusions 26 are provided at an interval of about 2 to 4μm on a light emitting surface 24 of a light emitting diode. The protrusion 26 is rectangular in a planar shape, and the protrusions 26 are regularly arranged at an equal interval via rectangular holes 28 indicated by a shade. The protrusion 26 and the hole 28 are formed in a substantially rectangular section, and a difference (d) of heights of the both is so formed, for example, to about 66.9nm that its optical length becomes odd magnification of 1/4 wavelength of a light emitted from a light emitting layer. Thus, since lights reflected at the protrusion 26 and the hole 28 cancel each other due to a difference of 1/2 wavelength of phases of the lights, reflection is reduced as a result, and a quantity of the light externally emitted from the surface 24 is increased, and hence a light emitting efficiency of the diode is enhanced.
