Abstract:

To provide a long and thin animal hair fiber which has a fixed drawn state, has a decreased fiber diameter without deteriorating the restorability of the crimps, has an increased fiber length, and has gloss, and to provide a method for producing the animal hair fiber.

This long and thin animal hair fiber is obtained by swelling and plasticating an animal hair fiber with a basic aqueous solution and then drawing the fiber into a length of substantially 1.20 to 1.60 times, and is fixed in the long and thin shape. The method for producing the long and thin animal hair fiber comprises (a) a process for really twisting an animal hair sliver, (b) a process for swelling and plasticating the twisted animal hair sliver in a basic aqueous solution, (c) a process for reducing disulfide bonds in the swollen and plasticated fiber to cut the disulfide bonds, (d) a drawing process for drawing the reduced, swollen and plasticated fiber into a length of substantially 1.20 to 1.60 times, (e) a process for oxidizing the drawn animal hair fiber with an oxidizing agent, and (f) a process for neutralizing the oxidized animal hair fiber with an acid.
