PURPOSE: To obtain a lubricating composition comprising an additive formulation capable of imparting thereto improved friction property, extreme pressure characteristic and thermal stability.
CONSTITUTION: This lubricating composition comprises a major amount of an oil having lubricating viscosity, (A) a hydrocarbyl phosphite wherein each hydrocarbyl group is saturated and independently contains about 12 to about 28 carbon atoms, (B) an organic polysulfide, and (C) (i) a borated overbased metal salt of an acidic organic compound, (ii) a combination of a borated dispersant and a phosphorus-containing antiwear or an extreme pressure agent selected from the group consisting of a phosphoric acid ester of salts thereof, a lower alkylphosphite, and a phosphorous-containing carboxylic acid, ester, ether or amide thereof, or (iii) a mixture of (i) and (ii).
