PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition, excellent in cleaning properties and capable of suppressing the deterioration in total base number even when used for a long period by using specific two kinds of over based alkaline earth metallic cleaning agents and a specified succinimide-based ashless dispersing agent in combination.
SOLUTION: This composition is obtained by compounding (A) an over based alkaline earth metallic salicylate, (B) an over based alkali metallic phenate and (C) a bis type alkenylsuccinimide or a bis type alkylsuccinimide or a boron adduct thereto in a base oil for a lubricating oil. The amounts of the respective components compounded based on the total amount of the composition are preferably 0.1-20wt.% component A, 0.1-20wt.% component B and 0.1-10wt.% component C. Furthermore, the total base number of the composition is preferably regulated within the range of 5-20mgKOH/g. Thereby, the objective composition suitable especially for use in a diesel engine can be obtained.
