Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a magneto-optical memory element having a high recording density by setting the depth (d) in the groove parts of the magnetic memory element between specific multiple values of a ratio of the wavelength λ of a light beam and the refractive index (n) of a substrate and setting the ratio of the diameter L of a specific light beam and a track pitch (p) between the specific values.
CONSTITUTION: This magneto-optical disk is laminated with a transparent substrate 1, a transparent dielectric layer 2, a magneto-optical recording layer 3, a transparent dielectric layer 4, a reflection layer 5 and an overcoating layer 6 in this order. The substrate 1 has grooves for guiding a light beam 11 on at least one surface of the substrate 1 and the surface of the groove side transparent substrate 1 is provided with the optical recording layer 3. The width of the grooves and the width of the lands between the grooves are nearly equal. The depth (d) of the groove parts satisfies 0.13λ/n≤d≤0.18λ/n when the wavelength of the light beam is defined as λ and the refractive index of the substrate is defined as (n). The light intensity of the light beam for irradiation is 0.6≤L/p≤1.2 when the diameter of the light beam in the position where the light intensity of irradiation light beams attain 1/e2 of the light intensity at the center of the light beam is defined as L and the track pitch as p.
