To provide a main rope tension adjusting device for a small, lightweight elevator, capable of being easily transported and installed in a relatively small space in a hoist way.
In an elevator, wherein the ends of a plurality of main ropes suspending a car and a counterweight are individually connected to thimble rods 10, with the ends of the rods led through to the other side of a supporting member 7, and wherein spring members 19 are interposed between nuts 16, 17 screwed on these thimble rods 10 and the supporting member 7, the main rope tension adjusting device is constructed comprising a first plate 20 engaging with the thimble rods 10 and abutting the upper end sides of the spring members 19, a second plate 21 engaging with the thimble rods 10 and abutting the lower ends of the nuts 17, and jacks 22 disposed between the first plate 20 and second plate 21 and capable of extending in a direction to increase the gap between the first plate 20 and second plate 21.
