PURPOSE: To obtain an extruding billet of Al alloy powder with high productivity without using a lubricant by subjecting an Al alloy powder solidified by rapid cooling at a specific cooling velocity and above or a fine Al alloy powder made by spraying method to cold hydrostatic compacting at a prescribed compacting pressure and above.
CONSTITUTION: The Al alloy powder solidified by rapid cooling at ≥100°C/sec cooling rate or the Al alloy powder having a grain size smaller than 42 mesh made by spraying method is subjected to cold hydrostatic compacting at a compacting pressure of ≥4ton/cm2, by which the density ratio of the resulting green compact comes to ≥85% even in case of a high alloy such as Al-20Si-5Fe alloy powder. Further, by increasing the green compact density ratio of the billet to ≥80%, induction heating of the billet is enabled, so that the advantage of the speeding-up of the temp.-raise rate by means of a heating furnace or the like can be provided.
