PURPOSE: To recover a catalyst simply and efficiently and to reuse it when benzophenoneazine produced by oxidizing benzophenoneimine with O2 is hydrolyzed to obtain hydrazine hydrohalogenide, by bringing a specified aqueous soln. into contact with the liq. reaction product.
CONSTITUTION: Benzophenoneimine is oxidized with O2 in the presence of a copper halide such as cuprous chloride to produce benzophenoneazine. The resulting oxidized liq. is brought into an aqueous soln. of HX (X is halogen such as Cl) to hydrolyze the benzophenoneazine. By the hydrolysis, hydrazine hydrohalogenide is obtd., and the catalyst is removed from the oxidized liq. by extraction. The catalyst is then separated from the soln. contg. the extracted catalyst, and the resulting aqueous soln. is adjusted to 3W7pH and brought into contact with benzophenoneimine to extract the catalyst. This catalyst is separated in the next stage, and it is used again in the oxidation reaction of benzophenoneimine.
