PURPOSE: To reduce the increase of the internal resistance caused during the preservation of a silver oxide cell by preparing a positive electrode by reducing the surface layer of a compressed molded body made of silver oxide into an argentous oxide layer before the surface layer of the argentous oxide layer is reduced into a silver layer, and performing the said reduction of silver oxide into argentous oxide in an alkaline solution of a sulfite.
CONSTITUTION: A pressed molded body prepared by subjecting silver oxide powder to pressure molding is immersed in an alkaline solution of a sulfite so as to reduce the surface part of the above pressed molded body having about 100μm thickness into argentous oxide. As the above sulfite, sodium sulfite, potassium sulfite, sodium hydrogensulfite, potassium hydrogensulfite or the like is used. The concentration of the above sulfite contained in the alkaline solution is preferred to be in the range of 0.5∼ 1.0wt%. In performing the above immersion of the pressed molded body in the above alkaline solution, the above sulfite is preferably added at all times, as the reaction proceeds, so as to maintain the concentration of the above sulfite within the above mentioned range. Following that, the surface part of thus obtained argentous oxide is reduced into silver so as to make a three-layered positive electrode 1 consisting of a silver oxide layer 2, an argentous oxide layer 3 and a silver layer 4.
