Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of an unsintered cadmium negative electrode for an alkaline storage battery by holding an active material mainly made of a cadmium oxide on a conductive substrate to form an electrode plate, hydrating the cadmium oxide of the electrode plate, and generating fine crystals of a β-type potassium hydroxide via a hydrating process.
SOLUTION: The hydrating process of the cadmium oxide of an electrode plate is conducted in a hydrated solution added with a phosphate and/or a silicate to a potassium hydroxide aqueous solution with the specific gravity of 1.25 or below at 25°C. The temperature of the hydrated solution is preferably set to 30°C or below, and the concentration of the phosphate and/or the silicate in the hydration solution is preferably set to 0.1-1.0 mol/l.
