To provide a manufacturing method and a purification method of an asymmetric Diels-Alder reaction product, and an asymmetric catalyst and an asymmetric catalyst mixture suitably used for the manufacturing method.
An ,-unsaturated aldehyde and a conjugated diene are caused to react using water as a solvent in the presence of an asymmetric catalyst composed of a compound represented by general formula (1) or an enantiomer thereof and an acid, or in the presence of an asymmetric catalyst composed of a salt of a compound represented by general formula (1) or an enantiomer thereof with an acid. In the formula, R1 and R2 are each independently an aryl group, heteroaryl group, cycloalkyl group, heterocycloalkyl group, cycloalkenyl group, heterocycloalkenyl group, alkyl group, alkenyl group or alkynyl group, each optionally substituted; R3 is a silyl group or an optionally substituted alkyl group; R4 is a protecting group for a hydroxy group; and n is 0 or 1.
