PURPOSE: To control the increase of internal resistance during storage by impregnating an alkaline aqueous solution in the surface layer of a two-layer positive electrode consisting of silver (II) oxide and silver (I) oxide layers, depositing lead hydroxide, incorporating it in a cell, oxidizing lead hydroxide in the cell during storage, and forming a lead dioxide layer on the surface of the positive electrode.
CONSTITUTION: A two-layer positive electrode in which a silver (I) oxide layer 3 is formed around a silver (II) oxide layer 2 by reducing the surface layer of the press molding substance consisting of silver (II) oxide is immersed in alkaline aqueous solution and the alkaline aqueous solution is impregnated on its surface layer. Then the positive electrode is immersed in a nitrate aqueous solution and lead hydrooxide is deposited on its surface. As described above, when the positive electrode 1 which impregnates the alkaline aqueous solution is immersed in the nitrate aqueous solution, lead hydroxide is deposited on the surface of the positive electrode 1. Besides, when the positive electrode 1 in which this lead hydroxide is deposited is incorporated in a cell, lead hydroxide is oxidized during storage and becomes lead dioxide. Since this lead dioxide is in the highest oxidation state, it is excellent in oxidation resistance. When a lead dioxide layer is formed on the surface of the positive electrode 1, this cell has small internal resistance and prevents the internal resistance from being increased during storage.
