To provide a memory card socket that can be commonly used for a plural types of memory cards and cause a state of contact between a contact and a contact pad in inserting the memory card to be a state suitable for exerting performance of each type of the memory cards.
A high-speed memory card MC2 has a characteristic that the length of a space 110 for a pad where the pad P is exposed in a direction of insertion into the memory card socket is relatively longer than that of a conventional memory card MC1. With the focus on this characteristic, a diversion section 81c is provided for separating a contact section 81b from a pad P3 common to the memory cards MC1 and MC2. This separation is made by contacting a contact C10 corresponding to a pad P10 provided only on the high-speed memory card MC2 with an inner surface 110a of the space 110 for a pad of the conventional memory card MC1 without contacting an inner surface 110a of the space 110 for a pad which faces in the direction of insertion on the high-speed memory card MC2.
