Abstract:
To provide a mesomorphism compound satisfying at least one physical property such as high stability to heat or light, high transparent point (or high upper limit temperature of a nematic phase), low lower limit temperature of a liquid crystal phase, small viscosity, moderate optical anisotropy, large negative dielectric anisotropy, moderate elastic constant, good compatibility with other mesomorphism compound, and a compound having better compatibility with other mesomorphism compound than that of similar compounds.SOLUTION: There is provided a compound represented by the formula (1). In the formula (1), for example, Rand Rare alkyl, a ring A, a ring Aand a ring Aare 1,4-phenylene, Z, Z, Z, and Zare single bonds, Land Lare independently halogen, Y, Y, Y, and Yare independently hydrogen or -CH, a, b and c are independently 0 or 1, and sum of a, b, and c is 0, 1, 2 or 3.SELECTED DRAWING: None
