Abstract:

To provide a method for producing less discolored ester and polyester without generating insoluble particles or solids by using a catalyst exhibiting good catalytic activity and, at the same time, environmentally friendly.

The method comprising a step for bringing a carbonyl compound into contact with an alcohol in the presence of a catalyst and for esterification, ester exchange or polycondensation is provided, wherein the catalyst is produced by combining a titanium compound with a glycol, a first phosphorus compound or water, the carbonyl compound has formula R2COOR2, the titanium compound has formula Ti(OR)4, and the first phosphorus compound is polyphosphoric acid or a salt thereof, a phosphonate ester, pyrophosphoric acid or a salt thereof, pyrophosphorous acid or a salt thereof, or a combination of two or more thereof.
