Abstract:
PURPOSE: To accurately measure the flow rate of the blood flowing through an aorta by measuring the flow velocity of the blood by utilizing a Doppler effect by measuring and processing the feature of echo signals.
CONSTITUTION: An ultrasonic transducer 4 set on the supporting surface 12 of a supporting block 3 outputs a wide beam 4a covering the entire cross sections S of a blood vessel 10 and another ultrasonic transducer 5 attached to the block 3 outputs a flat narrow beam 5a. At the time of measuring the flow rate of the blood flow flowing through the aorta 10 of a patient by inserting a probe into the esophagus 13 of the patient, the probe is moved in the axial line X-X' along the esophagus 13 so that the transducers 4 and 5 can be faced to the cross section S and the block 3 is moved in an appropriate azimuth by means of a driving knob 9. A measuring means 14 measures the amplitude of the echo signal of the transducer 5 and outputs the measured amplitude to a means 15 which detects the maximum amplitude. Therefore, the direction of a beam 4a can be decided accurately by moving the block 3 to the position at which the amplitude value of the echo signal becomes the maximum and the transducer 4 can accurately measure the flow rate of the aortic blood flow by utilizing a Dappler effect.
