PURPOSE: To obtain a rice cake good in quality without chopping the rice cake by stopping the rotation of a rotor rotating in a mortar every time a pounder reaches a lower limit.
CONSTITUTION: A rotor 8 passing through an opening at a lower portion of a bowl like mortar 1 and rotating a rice cake material in the mortar 1 and a pounder 16 for intermittently pounding the rice cake material are provided. The mortar 1 main body is rotatable around the rotor 8. Further, a sealing type jacket 2 having a water feed port 3 and a water discharge port 4 at the side portions of the mortar 1 main body encloses the mortar 1. The rotor 8 having an upper portion protruding to the mortar 1 from the opening at the lower portion of the mortar 1 main body and a lower portion below the opening the outside diameter of which is larger than the inside diameter of the opening is mounted on a rotating base 10 through an elastic member 12. Then, every time the pounder 16 reaches the lower limit, the rotation of the rotor is stopped. As a result, rice cake good in quality can be formed without chopping the rice cake.
