To provide a baking method for obtaining a sound catalyst molded object in low cost within a short time by a method not having possibility generating abnormal temp. rise when, a catalyst dried object is baked in the atmosphere.
At least a catalyst carrier raw material, a catalytically active component and a material containing an org. molding auxiliary agent are kneaded to obtain moldable paste and this paste is molded into a molded object equipped with air permeable through-cells and the molded object is dried to obtain a catalyst molded object which is, in turn, baked while air is passed through the through-cells of the catalyst molded object. In this method, the temp. of supply air in a temp. rising process is cyclically changed. An apparatus for realizing the baking method consists of at least an air supply fan 6, a heater 7 positioned on the downstream side of the fan 6 to raise the temp. of air, a cooling air supply nozzle 8 for cyclically changing the temp. of air and a chamber 2 positioned on the downstream side of them to arrange a honeycomb baked object 3 and the temp. of air can be cyclically changed by adjusting the heater 7 and the cooling air supply nozzle 8.
