Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a printer table for which the hue to be perceived is preserved and the color varies smoothly outside the color range thereof easily by performing color mapping in Munsell space, where the hue plane is a line.
CONSTITUTION: A printer driver 26 in the host CPU 20 of a printer outputs CMY values which are determined according to a printer table 26a or a boundary table 26b for each pixel of a color image, based on color values from a processing circuit 21. Printable colors in CIELAB space are transformed into Munsell space and color mapping functions are derived which map Munsell space coordinates into primary color coordinates CMY of the printer. All discrete points of an extended gamut in CIELAB space are mapped into the Munsell space. Primary color values are inserted into the color printer table by applying the color mapping in the Munsell space to the mapped CIELAB points, that lie inside the Munsell printer color range thus configuring a printer table.
