PURPOSE: To provide a method for delignifying a paper pulp without deterioration by pneumatically conveying the fluffed comminuted cellulosic fibrous material by a gas including ozone, separating the majority of gas from the material, maintaining the material in a static condition with a small amount of the remaining ozone and also provide an apparatus therefor.
CONSTITUTION: This method comprises fluffing a comminuted cellulosic fibrous material by a fluffer 16, adding a gas containing an effective amount of ozone to effect delignification from an inletpipe 19, and pneumatically conveying in a pipe 21 for at least a few seconds. Separating the majority of gas by a gas/pulp separator 22, and maintaining the comminuted cellulosic fibrous material 24 in a static condition with a small amount of the remaining ozone in a retaining pipe 25 or the like for at least a few second.
