Abstract:
For opening seeds (esp. nuts) with hard husks, and the husk contg. a harmful substance, uses a process which includes a pre-step for making the harmful husk harmless. The pre-step includes a cooling step for cooling the husk to 0 deg. C or lower, and the said cooling temp. is selected so that the core part of the seed is not broken. The temp. of the husk is pref. kept at between 0 deg. C and -3 deg. C. The cooling is carried out with a liquid as cooled lower than the selected temp. of the husk, and the liquid is esp. air. The cooling is carried out within at most 1 hour, pref. 15 to 30 minutes. The apparatus for the process, comprises husk-peeling device and the pre-step of the cooling device which is so designed that the seeds are cooled to the selected temp..
