PURPOSE: To carry out upward propulsion for excavating a vertical shaft without removing an existing underground structure by installing a vertical shaft shield excavator inside a telephone-tunnel constructed in advance in the deep layer portion of the existing underground structure.
CONSTITUTION: During the execution of the primary covering construction of shield excavation at the deep layer portion of an existing underground structure 10, a blockout portion is formed in advance in the top board portion of a shield segment so as to construct a horizontal telephone-tunnel 14. An entrance seal 64 is mounted on the blockout portion and a shield excavator 20 for vertical shafts is installed inside the existing telephone-tunnel 14. Next, the shield excavator 20 for vertical shafts is propelled upward by a push-up jack 58, with telephone-tunnel facility 52 serving as a supporting member. Then the blockout portion is crushed and excavated and the excavator 20 is pushed into the ground and upward propulsion for excavating a vertical shaft is carried out while a segment 82 is assembled inside the existing telephone-tunnel 14.
