Abstract:

To enhance the methane-forming activity of a hydrogen-assimilable methane bacterium, and to promote the growth of the hydrogen-assimilable methane bacterium.

The methane-forming activity of the hydrogen-assimilable methane bacterium is enhanced from the methane-forming activity of the hydrogen-assimilable methane bacterium at a reference potential by using, as a reference potential, the oxidation-reduction potential in which the hydrogen-assimilable methane bacterium, which is formed in an environment by an inherent or added chemical component, can grow, bringing an electrode into contact with the environment containing the hydrogen-assimilable bacterium, and controlling the oxidation-reduction potential of the environment so as to be equal to or lower than -0.8 V based on silver-silver chloride electrode potential.
