PURPOSE: To reduce the frequency of unnecessary start and stop of a pump by accurately anticipating the amount of rainwater influx to a pump well even when a sudden change has occurred in the rainwater influx.
CONSTITUTION: A number-of-pumps control device 9 anticipates the amount of rainwater influx to a sewage duct 4 and a pump well 5 on the basis of the precipitation data given by an ombrometer 10 and also calculates the amount of water stagnation in the sewage duct 4 on the basis of the water level data given by a pump well level gauge 13. Also the control device 9 converts the anticipated influx value and the intra-duct stagnation amount into fuzzy numbers and stores as a rule the relation of the requisite pump lift with these mentioned amounts. To determine the requisite pump lift from these values, the anticipated influx amount and intra-duct stagnation amount converted into fuzzy numbers are adapted to the rule, and thereby the requisite pump lift is calculated as a fuzzy number, and the result is subjected to non-fuzzy processing to determine the requisite pump lift.
