To easily and quickly change and modify the height of a worm thread and concurrently form a profile for a short time by improving a method for forming a profile of single-start thread or multiple-start thread grinding worm where a reciprocating stroke operation is performed along a grinding worm where a disc-type profile forming tool is rotated.

In order to form two shape factors having different pressure angles in the axial direction cross-section of the worm thread, the profile forming tool having a profile corresponding to the two shape factors performs the additional motion of revolution around an axis of revolution F at right angles with a common plane of the axis of revolution of the grinding worm and a profile forming spindle, the size of angle of traverse is determined by a desired difference between pressure angles (α1-α2)=ΔαKRand the geometrical shape of the profile formation tool, and the revolution of the profile formation tool is replaced or filled with the revolution of the grinding worm around a second axis of revolution C in parallel with the axis F and/or a third axis of revolution A perpendicular to the axis of revolution F.
