Title:
METHOD FOR MAKING SUPPORTING SURFACE OF ARTICULATION USED FOR IMPLANTING MEMBER FOR ORTHOPEDIC SURGERY
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2001061954
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To manufacture a supporting surface of articulation used for an implanting member for orthopedic surgery by emitting radiation to a particle with an emitting energy enough to bridge at least one part of a polyethylene particle of super high molecule amount and by forming the emitted particles on the supporting surface of articulation.

A packet 10 includes polyethylene particles 12 of super high molecule amount (UHMWPE), and the packet 10 is formed of radiation- permeable materials. The packet 10 is conveyed to an inside of an emitting device 18 by a conveyer belt 14, and an emitting energy to hit the particles 12 within the packet 10 disposed in the emitting device 18 is transmitted by a radiation source. The radiation source 20 emits the particles 12 in the packet 10 with a sufficient amount of the emitting energy to bridge at least one part of the UHMWPE constituting the particles 12. After the UHMWPE particles 12 are bridged by the emitting energy, the particles 12 are put into a mold to form a supporting surface of articulation.
