Abstract:

To provide a method of manufacturing a carbon material for a lithium ion secondary battery negative electrode having a small irreversible capacity through a first cycle and enhanced charging and discharging efficiency.

A method of manufacturing a carbon material for a negative electrode for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery includes heating carbon obtained by contacting a gas containing hydrocarbon as a main component with a catalyst at 200°C to 400°C in a flow of hydrogen. The method also causes the carbon obtained by contacting a gas containing hydrocarbon as a main component with a catalyst to carry at least one type selected from nickel, cobalt, ion, platinum, ruthenium, rhodium, iridium, and palladium.
