Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for managing uniformity of filaments influenced by spinneret deposition and occlusion.SOLUTION: Cellulose acetate tow is formed by passing a cellulose acetate dope through a spinneret for spinning to form filaments. The filaments are bundled to form the tow. The tow is then crimped, dried and baled. Downstream products produced from the tow include a cigarette filter, where the cigarette filter desirably has uniform characteristics. The uniformity of the downstream products made from a single tow bale may be achieved by cleaning a spinneret contaminated by deposition and/or occlusion. Also disclosed is a further step for improving the uniformity.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1A
