To provide a method for manufacturing an indene polymer wherein a polymer with a high molecular weight is easily obtained, and a polymer with excellent optical properties and low water absorption, and especially improved mechanical strength can be manufactured, and to provide a molded article and an optical part having especially excellent mechanical strength and high qualities at a lower cost.
With a monomer mixture comprising at least a monomer represented by general formula (1) as an essential component, copolymerized is a multifunctional monomer that is cationically polymerizable with the monomer mixture in an amount of 0.01-5 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt. of the total of the monomer mixture in the presence of an organic solvent to form an indene polymer. With styrene or a styrene derivative as a monomer, copolymerized is a multifunctional monomer in an amount of 0.01-0.1 pt.wt. per 100 pts.wt. of the total of the above monomer to form a styrene polymer. The obtained indene polymer and styrene polymer are mixed at a weight ratio in the range of 20/80 to 80/20 to form a polymer mixture.
