To provide a method for manufacturing an optically anisotropic polymer molding composed of a birefringent polymer obtained from a liquid crystalline monomer, having extremely high transparency and suitable e.g. for an optical low-pass filter.
In the method, the birefringent optically anisotropic polymer molding is manufactured by forming a thin layer of a photo polymerizable liquid crystal composition containing a liquid crystalline monomer component composed of a monomer exhibiting a liquid crystal phase at room temperature, subjecting the thin layer to orientation treatment and subsequently carrying out photo polymerization treatment by making ultraviolet rays irradiate the thin layer. The method is characterized by carrying out the orientation treatment toward the thin layer of the photo polymerizable liquid crystal composition with an action of a parallel magnetic field of 3 tesla or higher intensity.
