Title:
METHOD OF MEASURING DISTANCE TO FAULT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3930778
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily measure the distance to transient fault by emphasizing a transient event included in a return signal from a transmission system by using a measuring instrument for frequency domains.
SOLUTION: While the transmission system is perturbed, an initial set of I and Q data representing voltage and phase information of a return signal in a frequency domain from the transmission system is received and stored as a reference set (30), and a subsequent set of per frequency I and Q data is received as a current set (32). In each acquisition of the current set of I and Q data, respective entries of the current set are compared with corresponding entries of the reference set (34) and when the difference found by the comparison exceeds a specified tolerance, the corresponding entries of the comparison result set are updated with the entries of the current set (38). The comparison result set is converted from the frequency domain to a time domain to find the distance to fault of a transient event (42).
