Title:
METHOD FOR MELTING COLD IRON SOURCE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2002022366
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To obtain a method for melting a cold iron source in which contact area between molten steel and a cold iron source is decreased by tilting a melting chamber using an arc melting facility having a shaft type preheating chamber coupled directly to the upper section of the melting chamber, and shelf suspension of the cold iron source due to fusion is prevented in the preheating chamber when the temperature of the molten steel is raised by heating.

A cold iron source is melted by arc 19 using an arc melting facility 1 comprising a melting chamber 3 and a shaft type preheating chamber 4 coupled directly with the melting chamber while feeding the cold iron source to the preheating chamber such that the cold iron source 16 exists continuously in the preheating chamber and the melting chamber. When a specified quantity of melt 17 is stored, the melting chamber is tilted to decrease contact area between the melt and the cold iron source in the melting chamber and after the temperature of the melt is raised by heating it with arc, the melt is delivered under a state where the cold iron source exists continuously in the preheating chamber and the melting chamber. In such a method for melting a cold iron source, exhaust gas generated in the melting chamber is not passed partially or entirely through the preheating chamber but discharged from the melting chamber after it is tilted.
