To provide a method for printing a print pattern for detecting shift of carriage in which shift of carriage of a print material can be recognized readily, and to provide an inkjet imaging apparatus employing it.

The method for printing a print pattern for detecting shift of carriage of a print material, e.g. a sheet, on the print material comprises a first step for printing a first division part 51 of the print pattern for detecting shift of carriage, a second step for carrying the print material by two pass or more without performing print with a print head, and a third step for printing the remaining second division part 54 of the print pattern for detecting shift of carriage wherein the first, second and third steps are performed in this order thus printing the print pattern for detecting shift of carriage while enlarging the shift of carriage. For example, the first division part 51 is printed at the n-th pass of multi-pass print and after the print material is carried by (m-n) passes, the second division part 54 is printed at the m-th pass of multi-pass print.
