Abstract:

To provide a method for producing an amphoteric starch polyion complex, which exhibits an excellent yield-improving effect and an excellent aqueous property-improving effect and by which the amphoteric starch polyion complex can simply be produced, and to provide a method for producing paper with the amphoteric starch polyion complex.

The method for producing the amphoteric starch polyion complex containing a cationized starch and carboxymethylcellulose is characterized in that the carboxymethylcellulose has a 1% solution viscosity of 5,000 to 15,000 mPa and that steam is blown in an aqueous slurry containing the cationized starch and carboxymethylcellulose to gelatinize the starch. The method for producing the paper is characterized by adding the obtained amphoteric starch polyion complex to a pulp slurry and then producing the paper from the mixture.
