Abstract:
To provide a method for producing biphenyl-3, 4, 3', 4'-tetracarboxylic acid, by which the objective acid can be produced from inexpensive raw materials in an industrially high yield in excellent productivity.
This method for producing the biphenyl-3, 4, 3', 4'-tetracarboxylic acid is characterized by comprising the first process of subjecting 1, 2-dimethyl-4-chlorobenzene to a coupling reaction to produce biphenyl-3, 4, 3', 4'-tetramethyl, and then crystallizing to isolate the biphenyl-3, 4, 3', 4'-tetramethyl, and the second process of oxidizing the biphenyl-3, 4, 3', 4'-tetramethyl and then crystallizing to isolate the biphenyl-3, 4, 3', 4'-tetracarboxylic acid.
