Abstract:

To provide a method for producing coated paper having two coating layers with excellent printing gloss and ink drying properties.

The method for producing the coated paper comprises a step of coating coating base paper with an under coating composition containing a pigment and an under coating copolymer latex and forming an under coating layer, a step of coating the top surface of the under coating layer with a top coating composition containing a pigment and a top coating copolymer latex and forming the top coating layer. In the method, the under coating copolymer contains a constituent unit derived from a vinyl cyanide compound and the relationship of Xu-Xt≥8 (mass%) is established between the content Xu (mass%) of the vinyl cyanide compound in the monomer component forming the under coating copolymer and the content Xt (mass%) of the vinyl cyanide compound in the monomer component forming the top coating copolymer. The gel content Yu (mass%) of the under coating copolymer is ≥60 mass%.
